Profile: Since 1979, The National Youth Orchestras of Scotland (NYOS) has provided outstanding orchestral and instrumental opportunities for young Scottish musicians aged 8-26. Running seven national youth ensembles, NYOS organises auditions, training, rehearsals and national and international concert tours, giving its students the opportunity to work with leading soloists, conductors and composers, developing the skills, confidence and abilities that will help make them successful as young adults in all walks of life. Residential training courses provide an intensive learning programme. Within a short time they will perform in front of a live audience in venues such as Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and Perth Concert Hall. Outreach work in nurseries teaches young children, who would not normally have the opportunity to learn from specialist music teachers.
