Sense Scotland wins national award

SWIB president, Mairi Morrison, was delighted to accept the award for Best Health Project at the star-studded live National Lottery Awards show recently on BBC 1. Mairi, Sense Scotland's Head of Business Development, and Matthew Ward from Linwood, who uses the charity's services, received the award from Dr Pamela Stephenson. Mairi said: "It's an absolute honour to win this award and a real boost for everyone involved to receive national recognition for their hard work and dedication. Lottery funding has been absolutely crucial to Sense Scotland." At November's SWIB event, Mairi also thanked all the SWIB members who publicised and voted for the Sense Scotland project.

As well as getting national recognition at the awards ceremony Sense Scotland receives a £2,000 cash prize to spend on their project. The National Lottery Awards are the annual search to find the UK's favourite Lottery-funded projects and to celebrate the difference that these organisations make to local communities.

Pictured here are Gillian Dick of Find Me Glasgow and Alison Harkin of ACE Place Nursery with their ASB national awards. Last year, SWIB was delighted when Gillian won ASB Young Business of the Year 2010. This year, Alison followed in her footsteps when she won the Young Business award for 2011. Alison said "It's a great achievement to have won the Young Business of the Year award.  It is lovely to receive recognition for the hard work entailed in setting up and maintaining a successful business. I am delighted not just for myself but for my wonderful ACE Place staff team.".

Not willing to sit on her laurels (or her awards), Gillian has again come back with an award this year, having won ASB Most Enterprising Business 2011. Gillian commented "Winning this Award is a great achievement for me both personally and professionally. The credibility that goes with being recognised as the ASB’s Most Enterprising Business will help me take the business to the next level.  I would encourage all Business Women in Scotland to be a member of the ASB.".
