Charity of the Year

Each year, Scottish Women in Business adopts a charity, selected by its President in consultation with committee members. At each event, a donation of £1 per member is added to the total to be donated to the charity at the end of the year.

Charity 2008-09

The charity chosen for 2008-09 is Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Big Build Appeal, which is raising money to build a new hospice in Glasgow - a hospice that will be one of the best in Europe.

In Glasgow, Marie Curie Cancer Care currently cares for over 3,400 people every year but the current Marie Curie Hospice is an aging facility. After providing vital care for over 32,000 people with cancer the building desperately needs replaced. The Big Build Appeal has to raise £5million by March 2010 to give Glasgow a purpose-built hospice, ensuring that Marie Curie Cancer Care’s services can be continued in the city. The new hospice will improve the quality of care given to people with cancer across Glasgow and will allow their last days to be had with the privacy and dignity they deserve.

As SWIB’s Charity of the Year, the Big Build Appeal asks you to dig deep to help them give Glasgow the Marie Curie Hospice it deserves.  For more information, please visit www.bigbuild.org.uk or call 0141 531 1383.
