WeeG Chat by Sarah Heaney

By Sarah Heaney, Membership Executive, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce

WeeG Chat is now an established Glasgow Chamber virtual event, hosted by myself and Robert Menzies from the Membership Department, designed to give attendees a digital platform to grab a coffee and have a chat among peers on some of the challenges and successes within the business community.

The first WeeG Chat was held on 27 March 2020 - a date that will forever be etched in my memory! Robert and I had spent a fair bit of time writing a script, practising – we knew exactly how it was going to work. Only fewer than 5 minutes into it our plans were destroyed by the then growing trend of “Zoom bombing”. A steep learning curve which made our open and welcoming community a good bit more structured and a LOT more secure.

I believe that the WeeG Chat events are a great example of what Glasgow Chamber of Commerce does. We Support our Members and Champion Glasgow. We bring people together and give them the opportunities to build relationships, share ideas and best practice with businesses from all sectors and of all sizes.

I also believe that WeeG Chat is one of the most positive things to have come out of our new way of working during the pandemic but you don’t need to take my word for it. Here’s what some of our regular attendees have to say ...

The Friday WeeG chat has been an oasis in the desert like gloom of pandemic news. Like minds sharing a smile and lifting the spirits, making us ready to go again!

It has been wonderful to be part of the WeeG chats these past few months while working from home. Sarah and Robert always provide a warm, professional and welcoming community - the belly laughs are just a great bonus. Wonderful team and great getting to know the business community better. Keep up the great work.

I find WeeG Chat is a great event that is informative, fun and relevant to the topics of the day. The honesty and helpfulness of the participants provides moral support during these challenging times and valuable insights as to how different sectors are adapting and moving forward week by week. So it’s informative, fun and supportive and a weekly highlight.

I love the regular WeeG Chats with Sarah and Robert. Such a lovely way to get to know them and loads of other members of the Chamber. It's been a tough few months without any real face to face meetings and the WeeG has seamlessly filled the gap in the usual networking events. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly, it has a guaranteed spot in my diary! Genuine thanks for the support and see you on Friday!
