Denise MacDougall is an Ayrshire entrepreneur, master goldsmith and the founder of The Jewel Room and The Heritage House Property Group. She is also the second-generation owner of MacDougall Memorials, the family business established by her parents in 1986.

Denise founded The Jewel Room in 1998 with support from The Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust, now The King’s Trust. Over almost three decades, she has developed it into a highly personal, hospitality-led jewellery business specialising in bespoke design, remodelling and meaningful pieces that preserve the stories held within clients’ jewellery.

Her work combines traditional craftsmanship with innovation. This includes the development of the North Star, a distinctive Scottish-made design originally created from a late husband’s wedding ring as a lasting connection for his two sons.

Alongside leading MacDougall Memorials, Denise established The Heritage House Property Group to preserve and regenerate characterful buildings. She is currently transforming a historic listed property in Ayr into a new flagship home for The Jewel Room—bringing jewellery, craftsmanship, heritage and exceptional client experience together under one roof.

Denise’s wider vision is to protect traditional skills, create accessible routes into craft careers and establish structured training and education for the next generation. She believes successful businesses should create opportunities for others and that luxury should feel personal, meaningful and experiential—not simply transactional.

Through Scottish Women in Business, Denise looks forward to connecting with ambitious and values-led women, sharing the lessons gained from building and leading three very different businesses, and contributing her experience, energy and support to the wider business community.
